In Matrilineal Hauntings the ceramic interventions of Kathy Kranias acknowledge the revenant of colonialism that haunts the architecture of a once glorious Upper Canadian home in Toronto. Drawing on Kranias’s family history in her matrilineal line, the exhibition bridges generations of women through architecture as a site of home, status, and violence, foregrounding the “tension between quiet violence and injustice” that parallels our current times. Curated by Lera Kotsyuba, the exhibition toured to Schneider Haus Museum National Historic Site (May 25-Sept 2, 2024) and was reviewed by Gil McElroy in ESPACE Art Actuel. Catalogue available for sale at Craft Ontario Shop and Gardiner Museum Shop.
