These ceramic works reference the ancient Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone and the relationship to transformative processes, including loss and change, as well as creation and destruction. Evoking grief, the myth of Demeter’s loss of her daughter, Persephone leaves her mother and her adolescence behind to become Queen of her own realm in the Underworld. This body of work was conceived and exhibited as a solo ceramic installation titled Becoming The Persephone at the Art Gallery of Peterborough (2009). The exhibition was curated by Janette Platana and reviewed in Fusion magazine by Canadian art critic Gil McElroy.
